How long have you been working with ZCom Solutions?
I started working for ZCom in July 2019 so just over 18 months ago – although it feels like much longer as I have worked with a number of my colleagues before in previous companies, so our working relationships and friendships go back 20 years in some cases!
What is your role?
I was brought onboard when ZCom where planning to open their new European entity and I was involved in getting the new Irish HQ set up but my official job title is Director of Sales & Marketing.
How would you describe a typical workday?
Very varied especially since Covid – thankfully I have a lot of flexibility in my role which has really been needed during the pandemic as I have had to juggle my working life with home-schooling! Which has been the biggest challenge of my life! I am quite an organised person, so the evening before I always review the next day and see what meetings I have planned and what tasks I need to get done and then I plan my day around that. I usually start each morning (after a coffee or 2) making sure I have anything that is required for calls ready to go and do any follow ups that are needed. Because of the fact we are working from home a lot I then try to have a quick call or even just send a quick message to the team to check in and see how everyone is getting on and if they need anything for the day.
Mornings tend to be my most productive to get things done and then from 1.30pm its usually calls, and catch ups with US colleagues and clients.
What do you enjoy most about working at ZCom Solutions?
ZCom has a very unique feel to it, a lot of our team know each other from before they started working at ZCom – so it’s almost like a family business. As ZCom has grown and we have hired we also do so with the company culture in mind, so we hire people who are a good fit for the team as well as the role.
The industry we are can be challenging. We are also managing tight deadlines & budgets so it’s good knowing that even when things are a little crazy you have a great team of people who will be supporting you. In fact one of our company Values is “We are in this together.”
How do you like to relax after a hard day at work?
Relaxation – this usually comes quite late in our house, with 3 children it’s pretty hectic even after I finish work!
I would love to be able to say I sit and read something inspirational but honestly its usually Netflix and I tend to pick something that is an “easy watch.” I find it hard to switch off , my mind races at a million miles an hour so I usually watch something that is mind numbingly boring (to my husband’s dismay!)
We also spend a huge amount of time at the beach which is only 5 minutes away from our house.
3 words that describe you best?
Loyal, hardworking and usually hangry ????
What is one thing you will never do again?
I am terrified of heights, last year we visited New York and my children set me the challenge of going up the One World Trade Center. I did it BUT I hated every single second. It was terrifying and I will never do that again. The children on the other hand loved it!
Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without right now?
Coffee and a Hot bath every day but I deem them both as a necessity. So right now its probably complaining about homeschooling!
What puts you in a good mood?
MUSIC! I love music! All kinds of music. I have a very varied taste, but it needs to have words that I can (badly) sing along to!
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
Pre Covid – driving the kids from party to party and from soccer pitch to soccer pitch!
Covid Times – walking on the beach, staying home and eating far too many baked goods (my 9 year old daughter has replaced soccer with baking!)
What was your favourite subject in school?
Maths and now my favourite thing ever is Excel! It is literally the best invention ever; I manage my life with a spreadsheet!
Best movie you have ever seen?
Too many to name… The Greatest showman, Aladdin (The new Will Smith one), Sleepers, The Green Mile, Days of wine & Roses (Very old one), I loved Girls Trip and of course ELF at Christmas time.
If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be?
It would be amazing to be technical minded like our developers! Imagine the possibilities if you could develop software, build computers – I am not technically minded at all!
What’s the top destination on your must-visit list? (After Covid of course!)
Yorkshire in England, I really want to see my Mam ☹
What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard?
It’s kind of advice but also lyrics in a song “Que Sera Sera” – Whatever will be will be – I like to fix things, or be in control so sometimes I need to remind myself it’s not always possible and just to go with the flow… This also happens to be one of my favourite songs of all time ????
