With the ongoing pandemic Covid-19 – there has never been a more relevant time for businesses to think about Business Continuity. Just a few short months ago as we where ringing in the New Year no one could have imagined that within the space of a few weeks the Global Economy would come to a standstill. No one could have foreseen that within the space of 5 days in Ireland alone over 250,000 people within the hospitality & retail industry would lose their jobs.
We have seen the stories in the news of how businesses are scrambling to adapt to what has been described as the “Social Shutdown” we have seen restaurants converted to drive-thru restaurants and gyms that are delivering online fitness classes. But this ingenuity will not work for all organisations.
What is Business Continuity?
Business continuity is the process of creating systems of prevention and recovery to deal with potential threats to a Company. In addition to prevention, the goal is to enable ongoing operations before and during execution of disaster recovery.
From an operational perspective, the effects of operating highly manual and paper intensive organizations has likely resulted in a severe lack of business stability. And where business operations have not been broken, we must assess how many employees have we put at risk by allowing individuals to come to work; and what will be the long-term implications of this? And what about the IT Teams within these organizations – as they have been put under unprecedented pressure to roll out work from home policies around the globe are, they able to support such an organisation remotely?
In an earlier blog we highlighted the fact that ECM and document digitization goes way beyond ROI – And we believe that the unfortunate scenario of our current climate has highlighted this fact beyond argument. As business owners we must put solutions in place to protect our business, our employees and not to be forgotten, our customers, who have also felt the impact of these times.
So, I challenge all of us to consider – how can we do this differently? It is not too late to put processes and systems in place to reduce the risk and the impact this pandemic has on your employees, business operations and financial security.
All of us at ZCom wish our extended customer base continued health and success. Please remember If we can support you with answering any of these questions or addressing these realities, we are here to help!
